On May 30, 2019, Vice Foreign Minister Qin Gang met with President Juan Carlos Varela of Panama in Panama City.

Conveying the sincere greetings from President Xi Jinping, Qin Gang highly commended President Juan Carlos Varela’s historic contribution to the development of China-Panama relations, and hoped Juan Carlos Varela could continue to support and participate in China-Panama friendly cause after leaving his office.

Juan Carlos Varela expressed that to establish diplomatic relations with China is the most correct political decision made during his term of office. He will continue to contribute his due bit to Panama-China friendship and to promoting bilateral practical cooperation and enhancing bilateral friendship.
