Vice Foreign Minister Zheng Zeguang and Deputy Foreign Minister Federico Alfaro Boyd of Panama Hold Political Consultation Between the Two Foreign Ministries

On July 22, 2020, Vice Foreign Minister Zheng Zeguang and Deputy Foreign Minister Federico Alfaro Boyd of Panama held the second political consultation between the two Foreign Ministries via videolink. Deputy Minister for Multilateral Affairs and Cooperation Erika Mouynes of Panama was present.

Zheng Zeguang said, Panama is China's new and good friend. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations three years ago, China-Panama relations have enjoyed rapid development. Both sides have maintained close communication across all levels, and have witnessed fruitful results in such areas as economy, trade, finance, and infrastructure. The Chinese side is willing to work with the Panamanian side to deepen cooperation in various fields, strengthen coordination and cooperation in international affairs, and jointly safeguard multilateralism, in a bid to push China-Panama relations for comprehensive and in-depth development. The Chinese side will continuously support the Panamanian side's efforts in combating COVID-19.

Federico Alfaro Boyd spoke positively of Panama-China relations, and thanked the Chinese side for providing precious support to Panama's fight against COVID-19. He said, the Panamanian side attaches great importance to its relations with China, firmly abides by the One China policy, and stands ready to reinforce cooperation with the Chinese side in epidemic prevention and control, economy, trade, people-to-people and cultural engagement, so as to push Panama-China relations for continuous and greater development.

Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
