Spokesperson on hackers' attack at websites

2000-11-15 14:15
Q: Recently, some websites have been frequently attacked by hackers, do you have any comment on that?

A: Recently, some internet websites in the world have been subject to frequent attacks by hackers. This has not only incurred great losses to internet service providers (ISPs), the normal online work and life of numerous internet users has also been seriously affected. Our Government is therefore very much concerned. As internet economy is becoming one of the major factors for sustained growth of national economies, the security of the networks is particularly important. In the revised edition of China's Criminal Code in 1999, we added explicit provisions for criminal punishment of illegal intrusion in the computer information networks in important areas. The 1997 Management Measures for Safety Protection of Internationally-connected Computer Information Networks promulgated by the Public Security Ministry and approved by the State Council prohibits unauthorized access to or disruption of computer information networks by any unit or individual. The relevant departments of our Government are taking vigorous and effective measures to protect network security. The internet has just got off in China and it needs a favorable environment for it to grow. No misdeeds on the internet would be welcomed.
