2015-09-23 10:50

On September 22 local time, President Xi Jinping attended the 3rd China-US Governors Forum themed "Clean Energy and Economic Development " in Seattle and delivered a speech.

Xi Jinping fully affirmed this year's Governors Forum for its focus on low-carbon economy, and pointed out that it highly corresponds with the common challenges now facing China, the US and the international community. Xi Jinping stressed that local cooperation plays an important role in developing state-to-state relations. The relationship between countries requires people's support in the end and will eventually serve the people. Only local cooperation can best benefit people. In the past 30-odd years, China-US relations have benefited from the support of local regions and peoples in the two countries, and will still rely on and benefit local regions in the future. In recent years, China-US local cooperation and exchanges are displaying a new boom. Both sides have established 43 pairs of sister provinces/states and 200 pairs of sister cities. Currently, with the in-depth development of economic globalization and the comprehensive deepening of China-US all-round practical cooperation, local exchanges and cooperation between both countries are enjoying a more promising future. Both sides should make effective use of the opportunities unleashed by the huge volume of Chinese and the US economies, share the benefits brought by their reform and development policies, work hard to tap the potential of complementary advantages of bilateral local regions and boost cooperation in such areas as trade, investment, agriculture, information industry, automobile industry and environmental protection. Both sides should also attach importance to people-to-people and cultural exchanges and develop cooperation in extensive areas like education, tourism, sports and youth thus jointly compose a new chapter in China-US local cooperation.

Governor of California State Jerry Brown of the US welcomed President Xi Jinping's visit to the US at the crucial moment for US-China relationship and global development. He said that, the US and China, as two important countries, can bring benefit to the world by keeping close cooperation in various sectors. He is glad that both sides are expanding cooperation in fields like low-carbon economy development and clean energy and that important consensus was reached at the Forum to this end. At present, the international community is facing climate change and many other global challenges that cannot be dealt with by any individual country, and the US and China need to join efforts to push for concerted efforts from the international community.

Heads of provinces/states of China and the US introduced at the Forum their respective exchanges and cooperation with sister states/provinces, and expressed their willingness to push the in-depth development of China-US relations through closer local cooperation.

China-US Governors Forum was established in 2011 on the consensus between the two heads of state. Governor of California State Jerry Brown, Governor of Washington State Jay Inslee, Governor of Iowa State Terry E. Branstad, Governor of Michigan State Rick Snyde and Governor of Oregon State Kate Brown of the US as well as heads from Sichuan Province, Beijing Municipality, Chongqing Municipality, Zhejiang Province, Shandong Province and Shaanxi Province of China attended the Forum.
