Xi Jinping Meets with President Joko Widodo of Indonesia

On September 2, 2016, President Xi Jinping met in Hangzhou with President Joko Widodo of Indonesia, who was in China for the G20 Hangzhou Summit.

Xi Jinping stressed that China and Indonesia share broad common interests, and bilateral relations are developing in a sound momentum along a right track. Both sides should always be good neighbors, partners and friends, constantly increase political mutual trust and expand practical cooperation, in order to continuously push forward bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership. Both countries should continue strengthening high-level communication, and actively connect the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road initiative with the “Global Maritime Axis” vision. The two countries need to ensure the smooth implementation of the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway project, expand cooperation in fields including infrastructure construction, production capacity, trade, investment, finance, and e-commerce and build more flagship projects. Bilateral exchanges in education, science and technology, health, radio and television, youth and other sectors should be stepped up, so as to cement the public opinion foundation of bilateral friendship. China will continue to firmly support a united ASEAN and the building of the ASEAN community, and is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with Indonesia in the UN, the APEC, the G20 and other multilateral institutions, thus jointly safeguarding the interests of developing countries.

Joko Widodo expressed that Indonesia supports China in hosting a successful G20 summit. The two countries are important partners to each other, and bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership can make contributions to world peace and security. Indonesia supports discussions on dovetailing the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road initiative with the “Global Maritime Axis” vision, and is willing to deepen cooperation with China in trade, investment, finance, infrastructure and other areas.

Wang Huning, Li Zhanshu, Yang Jiechi and others were present at the meeting.
