On September 2, 2016, President Xi Jinping met in Hangzhou with President Bounnhang Vorachith of Laos, who was in China to attend the G20 Hangzhou Summit as head of a guest country.

Xi Jinping pointed out that China and Laos are good neighbors, friends, comrades and partners. Over the past 55 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, bilateral traditional friendship has gradually taken deeper roots in people's hearts and bilateral cooperation in all fields has been comprehensively and deeply carried out, bringing tangible benefits to the two peoples. We reached important consensus on deepening China-Laos comprehensive strategic cooperation in the new era during your visit to China this May. China is willing to, together with Laos, constantly push forward China-Laos comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and build an unshakable community of common destiny.

Xi Jinping stressed that both countries should intensify high-level exchanges, deepen strategic communication, enhance experience exchange on state governance and party administration, dock development strategies, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, jointly advance the “Belt and Road” construction and production capacity cooperation, reinforce cooperation in infrastructure construction, energy development, economic cooperation parks and other fields, and expand interest convergence. Both sides should continue to well organize the series of commemorative events marking the 55th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relationship, and beef up exchanges and cooperation in education, culture, tourism, law-enforcement, security and other areas. The attendance of Laos at the G20 Hangzhou Summit as the rotating ASEAN presidency is of vital significance. China is ready to, together with all sides including Laos, promote the summit for positive outcomes.

Bounnhang Vorachith thanked China for inviting Laos to attend the G20 Hangzhou Summit and spoke highly of China’s inclusion of development in the key agendas as well as its efforts to ensure positive outcomes from the summit.
