Xi Jinping Meets with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey

On September 3, 2016, President Xi Jinping met in Hangzhou with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey, who was in China for the G20 Hangzhou Summit.

Xi Jinping pointed out that Turkey successfully hosted the G20 Antalya Summit last year and maintained sound communication with China on the preparation of the Hangzhou summit. Thanks to concerted efforts from both sides, a series of consensus reached between Mr. President and I on advancing China-Turkey relations has been, or is in the process of being implemented, producing gratifying results. Taking the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries this year as an opportunity, China is willing to work with Turkey to push bilateral strategic cooperative relations for greater development. Expectations run high on the prospect of China-Turkey relations.

Xi Jinping emphasized that both countries should firmly adhere to the core issue of political mutual trust. China appreciates Turkey's affirmation that it will never allow any activities that could undermine China's security to take place on Turkish soil and hopes to achieve more tangible results in anti-terrorism and security cooperation with Turkey. Both sides should deeply explore concrete cooperation means and projects to link the “Belt and Road” initiative with the “Middle Corridor” initiative and make substantial progress in practical cooperation in infrastructure construction, energy, inspection and quarantine and other fields by docking development strategies and earnestly advancing practical cooperation. China is willing to intensify collaboration with Turkey to propel the G20 to play a bigger role in global economic governance.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that both countries maintain close communication at all levels and in various areas, vigorously pushing forward the development of bilateral relations. The Turkish side appreciates China's support for Turkey to maintain its national security and social stability. Turkey hopes to, together with China, deepen cooperation in investment, energy, aviation, agriculture, tourism, counter-terrorism and other sectors, strengthen collaboration in infrastructure construction, and actively expand third-party markets. In favor of the theme and agendas of the G20 Hangzhou Summit set by China, Turkey is willing to cooperate with China to ensure the success of the summit.

After the meeting, both heads of state witnessed the signing of cooperation agreements in energy, inspection and quarantine and other fields.
