Xi Jinping Meets with President Enrique Peña Nieto of Mexico

On September 4, 2016, President Xi Jinping met in Hangzhou with President Enrique Peña Nieto of Mexico, who was in China to attend the G20 Hangzhou Summit.

Xi Jinping pointed out that the development of China-Mexico comprehensive strategic partnership is a pioneering cause. At present, the two sides are actively implementing the consensus reached by Mr. President and I, and both sides have achieved many specific outcomes in trade, investment, finance, energy and other areas. China is willing to work with Mexico to consolidate political mutual trust, deepen interest convergence, promote people-to-people bonds, and advance the continuous and in-depth development of bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership, so as to constantly drive mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries to a higher level.

Xi Jinping stressed that both China and Mexico should maintain close high-level exchanges, boost communication at all levels and in various fields, and well plan the roadmap for China-Mexico cooperation in the next 5 years. The two countries should make the utmost of complementary advantages, seize the integrating points between China's 13th Five-Year Plan as well as the innovation-driven development strategy and Mexico's structural reforms, and beef up practical cooperation in such areas as industrial investment, infrastructure construction, special zone construction, finance, telecommunication, new energy, geospatial information and nanotechnology. Both countries need to deepen people-to-people and cultural exchanges, facilitate personnel exchanges, and maintain close communication on major international and regional issues. It is hoped that Mexico can take full advantage of regional influence and continuously support the development of China-Latin America relations as well as the construction of the Forum of China and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States.

Enrique Peña Nieto expressed that China is a close friend and important trade partner of Mexico. Mexico commits itself to earnestly implementing the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, and is willing to advance bilateral cooperation in investment, finance, tourism, special zone construction and other areas and intensify communication and coordination with China in international affairs. Mexico is delighted that the G20 Hangzhou Summit will achieve fruitful results.
