Xi Jinping Meets with Deputy Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman

On January 19, 2016 local time, President Xi Jinping met with Deputy Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman in Riyadh.

Xi Jinping stressed that since the establishment of the diplomatic relations between China and Saudi Arabia, the bilateral relations have developed rapidly with steady progress in their cooperation in all areas. Establishing a comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Saudi Arabia is a trend and marks a new stage for the bilateral relations. Both sides are facing new opportunities in expanding cooperation. China is willing to expand the scale of bilateral crude oil trade, and discuss and promote cooperation in areas such as new energy, clean energy, nuclear energy and security. Saudi Arabia lies on the "Belt and Road" and enjoys obvious location advantages. Both sides should discuss enhancing the docking of development strategies, play a more active part in the connectivity of the Middle East and Gulf region, accelerate the construction of the free trade area of China and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), and tap into cooperation potentials in areas such as infrastructure and communications. Both sides should encourage their financial institutions and competent enterprises to expand mutual investment and cooperation to promote the common development and common prosperity of countries along the "Belt and Road".

Xi Jinping pointed out that the situation in West Asia and North Africa bears global impacts. China supports countries in the region in seeking development paths that fit their own national conditions, and maintains that countries and peoples in the region independently solve problems in their development. China hopes that countries in the region strengthen communication and coordination to jointly build a Middle East with lasting peace, stability and prosperity.

Mohammad bin Salman said that he welcomes President Xi Jinping's historic visit to Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia-China relations are very important, and both sides hold similar positions on major international affairs and enjoy extensive common interests. Saudi Arabia is willing to enhance mutual political support and deepen cooperation in areas such as economy, trade, energy and security with China. Saudi Arabia is willing to actively participate in the connectivity construction under the framework of the "Belt and Road", and hopes to become an important passage for China-Africa economic and trade cooperation. Saudi Arabia is committed to achieving peace and stability in the region and is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with China in this regard.
