2016-01-21 09:29

On the evening of January 20, 2016 local time, shortly after arriving in Cairo, President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister Sherif Ismail of Egypt at the hotel where he stayed.

Xi Jinping pointed out that China and Egypt are true friends and good brothers. China and Egypt established comprehensive strategic partnership in 2014, elevating bilateral relations to a new level. My visit to Egypt this time is to comprehensively consolidate and deepen China-Egypt relations and push bilateral practical cooperation for new progress. Currently, China-Egypt relations are embracing unprecedented opportunities and broad prospects. The two countries should enhance docking of development strategies and speed up cooperation under the framework of the "Belt and Road" so as to turn the consensus into tangible results at an early date. China encourages its competent enterprises to participate in Egypt's major project construction and will intensify infrastructure construction cooperation and continuously advance production capacity cooperation with Egypt. As this year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations, the two countries will hold the Cultural Exchange Year in each other's country. Both countries should facilitate youth exchanges and encourage more tourists to travel in each other's country so as to deepen people-to-people and cultural exchanges and cooperation. The two countries hold similar positions on many major international issues and should boost communication and coordination in international affairs as the international situation is undergoing profound changes.

Sherif Ismail expressed that President Xi Jinping's visit to Egypt embodies the high level of Egypt-China relations. Egypt cherishes its traditional friendship with China and will deepen all-round cooperation with China. Egypt supports the "Belt and Road" initiative and will play an active part in relevant cooperation so as to become a trade channel linking China and Europe. Egypt is also willing to strengthen coordination with China in the UN affairs and other multilateral fields.

Following the meeting, Xi Jinping and Sherif Ismail together visited the Chinese high-tech exhibition.

Wang Huning, Li Zhanshu, Yang Jiechi and others attended above events.

On the same day, Xi Jinping also met with 10 friendly personages awarded for their outstanding contributions to China-Arab friendship including former Secretary-General of the UN Boutros Boutros-Gali, and shook hands and took a group photo with them.
