Xi Jinping Holds Talks with President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi of Egypt Stressing to Join Hands to Constantly Create New Situation in China-Egypt Friendly and Mutually Beneficial Cooperation

On January 21, 2016 local time, President Xi Jinping held talks at Quba Palace in Cairo with President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi of Egypt. Speaking highly of the bilateral traditional friendship and results yielded from mutually beneficial cooperation in various areas, both heads of state laid out the development plan of China-Egypt relations, and exchanged in-depth views and reached broad consensuses on international and regional issues of common interest,.

Xi Jinping stressed that Egypt is a major Arab, African and Islamic developing country. Since the establishment of China-Egypt diplomatic relations 60 years ago, the bilateral friendly relations have withstood the test of respective ups and downs and international vicissitudes with the two countries always supporting, respecting and trusting each other. At present, both countries are realizing the great dream of national development and rejuvenation. We are willing to join hands with Egypt to make joint progress and continuously create new situation in bilateral friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation.

Xi Jinping pointed out that China attaches great importance to developing its relations with Egypt and supports Egypt to restore stability and realize development as well as the Egyptian people to independently explore a development path suitable to their national conditions. During my visit this time, both sides will jointly issue the five-year outline on strengthening comprehensive strategic partnership and fully plan China-Egypt cooperation in various areas. Both countries should give play to the leading role of high-level mutual visits, offer firm support to each other's core interests and constantly enrich strategic connotations. Besides, China and Egypt should also dovetail respective development strategies and visions and take advantage of infrastructure construction and production capacity as two important means to build Egypt into a pivot along the "Belt and Road ". China is willing to participate in Egypt's major projects including the development of the Suez Canal Corridor and the construction of the new administrative capital, and expand bilateral cooperation in trade, financing, space technology, energy, human resources development, security and other fields. Both sides should strengthen coordination and cooperation in UN affairs and maintain communication in international and regional issues including the Middle East issue and climate change to safeguard the common interests of both countries as well as other developing countries. China stands ready to enhance friendly exchanges between both peoples by boosting people-to-people and cultural cooperation as well as exchanges in culture, education and tourism.

Xi Jinping invited Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi to attend the G20 Summit in Hangzhou as head of guest country this September.

Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi expressed that he is glad that President Xi Jinping is visiting Egypt on the occasion of celebrating the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Egypt-China diplomatic relations, and the visit will significantly promote the development of Egypt-China comprehensive strategic partnership. Egypt is devoted to intensifying cooperation with China in various areas, and is willing to dovetail its development plan with the "Belt and Road" initiative as well as promote cooperation in fields including infrastructure under the framework of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). Egypt welcomes Chinese enterprises to increase investment in the country. He also thanked President Xi Jinping for inviting him to attend the G20 Summit in Hangzhou as head of guest country. Egypt highly values its coordination and cooperation with China in major international and regional issues. China is a traditional friendly partner of Arab and African countries. Egypt appreciates China's just stance on the Middle East issue, and is willing to actively promote the deepening of friendly relations between Arab countries and China. Egypt also stands ready to beef up coordination and cooperation with China within the framework of Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.

After the talks, both heads of state witnessed the signing of the Five-Year Outline on Strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Between the People's Republic of China and the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Momentum of Understanding on Jointly Promoting Construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road Between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and many bilateral cooperation documents covering electric power, infrastructure construction, economy and trade, energy, finance, aviation and aerospace, culture, media, science, technology and climate change. They also jointly inaugurated the second-phase construction of the China-Egypt Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone.

Prior to the talks, Xi Jinping attended the grand welcome ceremony held by Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi at the square outside the Quba Palace.

At around 9:30 a.m. local time, escorted by horse and motorcycle troops, Xi Jinping arrived at Quba Palace by car and received warm welcome from Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi. Both heads of state stepped on the reviewing stand, and the military band played the national anthems of China and Egypt. A 21-gun salute was fired. Accompanied by Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, Xi Jinping inspected the honor guard. After the inspection, Xi Jinping was greeted by lined-up local children.

Wang Huning, Li Zhanshu, Yang Jiechi and others attended the aforementioned activities.
