Cameroonian President Met With Premier Zhu Rongji

On August 30, 2002, Cameroonian President Paul Biya met with visiting Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji at the Presidential Palace, and held cordial and friendly talks with Zhu on bilateral relation.

Zhu passed on the cordial regards from President Jiang Zemin to President Biya. Zhu said that Cameroon is an important country in Africa and China has always attached great importance to the friendly relations between the two countries and regarded Cameroon as one of China's major cooperative partners in Africa. Zhu said that under the correct guidance of President Biya and President Jiang Zemin, both countries have made new achievements in bilateral cooperation in all fields. He noted that China highly appreciates the Cameroonian government's stance of adhering to the One China policy and thanks the Cameroonian government for supportting China in human rights and other international issues.

Zhu said that China and Cameroon have conducted various kinds of cooperation in trade and economic fields and scored marked achievements. He noted that China has provided some economic aid to Cameroon within its ability to promote Cameroonian social and economic development. Zhu said that he had held fruitful talks with Premier Musonge and exchanged views on further strengthening bilateral trade and economic relations and signed five documents. Zhu believes that Sino-Cameroonian friendly and cooperative relations will enter into a new high with the efforts by the two countries.

Biya agreed with Zhu's assessment on bilateral relations. He said that the Cameroonian-Chinese friendly relations are a good example and the Cameroonian people appreciate China's precious assistance for many years. Cameroon admires much the great achievements China has made in all fields and what China has achieved in its development has inspired the developing countries including Cameroon. Biya reaffirmed that Cameroon has always stuck to the One China policy and supported China's efforts in realizing the reunification of China. Biya also asked Zhu to pass on his good wishes to President Jiang Zemin.
