President Xi Jinping Meets with President Enrique Pena Nieto of Mexico

On Sep. 4, 2013, President Xi Jinping met with President Enrique Pena Nieto of Mexico in St. Petersburg.

Xi Jinping expressed that he paid a successful state visit to Mexico in June this year. Over the three months, the consensus the two sides reached is being actively implemented with remarkable progress achieved. China-Mexico relationship has entered a new stage of development. Both sides should earnestly promote cooperation in all fields to unceasingly enrich the China-Mexico comprehensive strategic partnership. Especially to expand two-way investment as well as economic and trade cooperation, to enhance cooperation in infrastructure construction and other fields. The government departments of the two sides should create favourable conditions for investment cooperation between businesses of the two countries and for market access to each other. Hope both sides will speed up consultations on setting up the China-Mexico Investment Fund. China is willing to work with Mexico to push for the establishment of the China-Latin America Cooperation Forum as early as possible so as to actively promote the China-Latin America comprehensive cooperative partnership.

Pena Nieto said that Mexico is deeply honoured for receiving the visit by President Xi Jinping in June this year. The Mexico-China relationship now enjoys sound development. The relevant departments of both sides have seriously carried out the major decisions made by the two heads of state on bilateral cooperation and bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership has yielded new important results. The Mexican side is grateful for China's positive efforts for promoting bilateral cooperation. Mexico attaches great importance to developing positive and stable relations with China. Mexico hopes to expand the scale of bilateral trade and to take measures to allow more Chinese products to enter the Mexican market. Mexico welcomes Chinese businesses investing in infrastructure construction and other fields in Mexico. Mexico is willing to play a positive role in promoting the development of Latin America-China relations.

Both sides as well exchanged views on the upcoming G20 Summit in St. Petersburg. They agreed to maintain coordination and cooperation to ensure the positive achievements at the Summit, to keep the momentum of the global economic recovery, to enhance the say and influence of emerging market countries in global economic governance.

Xi Jinping and Pena Nieto also attended the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding on establishing a high-level intergovernmental working group on investment.

Wang Huning, Wang Yang, Li Zhanshu, Yang Jiechi and others were present at the meeting.
