On Sep. 5, 2013, President Xi Jinping met with President Dilma Rousseff of Brazil in St. Petersburg.

Xi Jinping expressed that next year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship between China and Brazil. Both sides should ensure the success of celebration activities to jointly look forward into the future cooperation. Both sides should leverage complementary advantages, strengthen overall planning and advance cooperation in the fields of energy, mining, agriculture and infrastructure construction, so as to expand the scale, to enhance the quality and to achieve mutual benefit and win-win outcomes. In face of the new changes in the international situation, China and Brazil should strengthen communication and coordination, work together to prove to the world the sound economic prospects of emerging market countries, in a bid to promote solidarity and cooperation among BRICS countries. They should oppose trade protectionism, actively participate in global economic governance, safeguard common interest of emerging market countries and continue to contribute to the global economic growth. China supports Brazil for hosting the BRICS Leaders Meeting next year. Hope Brazil will continue to exert positive influence in the Latin American region and promote the establishment of the China-Latin America Cooperation Forum in order to push for the in-depth development of China-Latin America comprehensive cooperative partnership.

Rousseff noted that the Brazilian side invites President Xi Jinping to pay a state visit to Brazil on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship between the two countries next year and to attend the BRICS Leaders Meeting, in a bid to push for further development of bilateral relations. Brazil-China cooperation enjoys huge potential. Brazil hopes to strengthen bilateral high-level coordinating committee mechanism, to optimize the bilateral trade structure, supports strategic cooperation between the businesses of the two countries in the fields of petroleum, logistics and transportation infrastructure construction. The global economy is now with a fragile momentum for recovery. Brazil, China and other emerging market countries should strengthen communication and coordination, join hands urging relevant nations to adopt responsible economic policies so as to push forward the reform of the global financial system. The Brazilian side is willing to contribute to boosting Latin America-China relations.

Both sides as well exchanged views on the Syria issue.
