Foreign Minister Wang Yi Talks about President Xi Jinping Attending the Eighth G20 Leaders' Summit in St. Petersburg

From Sept. 5 to 6, 2013, President Xi Jinping attended the Eighth G20 Leaders' Summit held in St. Petersburg, Russia. After the meeting was finished, Foreign Minister Wang Yi introduced the relevant circumstances of President Xi Jinping attending the summit.

Wang Yi said that the summit was held under the backdrop, in which the influence of the international financial crisis still exists, economy of developed countries has some recovery, and economy of the emerging market countries is slowing down. Faced with the new situation, the developed countries and emerging market countries are both very concerned about China's stance and proposition, paying attention to the status quo and future trend of the Chinese economy.

Wang Yi said that President Xi Jinping made an important speech at the summit, on behalf of the new Chinese government. Standing at the height of promoting a more balanced and sustainable growth of the world economy, Xi Jinping brought up a series of new ideas on development innovation, growth linkage and interests integration, and advocated the establishment of partnership among G20 members to build the awareness of community of common destiny, cooperating in competitions, and achieving win-win results in cooperation. Wang called on all countries to take responsible macroeconomic policies, to jointly improve global economic governance, and to maintain and develop an open world economy.

As the leader of the largest developing country, President Xi Jinping pointed out that the common global development will not be achieved if there is no real development of developing countries. We should continue to reform the international financial institutions, promote the establishment of a fair and inclusive international financial system, and increase the representativeness and say of developing countries in global economic governance.

Wang Yi said that the important propositions put forward by President Xi Jinping have been generally accepted and identified by the participating countries, and many of China's ideas and suggestions have been incorporated into the St. Petersburg G20 Leaders' Declaration, collectively uttering the "Chinese Voice", representing the say of China, and raising the status and functions of China in global economic governance.

Wang Yi said that President Xi Jinping also introduced the development prospects of the Chinese economy to all countries, and stressed that China has become one of the main engines of the world economic growth. Chinese economy maintains good development momentum at the moment, with all index within the expected range of macroeconomic regulation and control. China will unswervingly deepen reform and expand opening up, and adhere to the opening-up strategy of mutual benefits and win-win results. China has the conditions and ability to achieve sustainable and healthy economic development, and to make a greater contribution to the world economy. President Xi Jinping's introduction helped the leaders at the meeting have a more objective and accurate understanding of the status quo and development prospect of the Chinese economy. All parties generally thought that China is determined to insist on reform and opening up, with powerful measures. After adjustment, China's economic growth will have a higher quality, with better development prospect, which will be a greater new opportunity to the world.

Wang Yi said that during the meeting, President Xi Jinping also had active summit diplomacy with state leaders and personnel in charge of international organizations.

When meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the two heads of state satisfactorily reviewed that various important consensuses reached by both sides have been fully implemented, since President Xi Jinping visited Russia in March this year. Both sides agreed to further promote cooperation in economy and trade, energy, aviation, regions and other sectors, and at the same time, to strengthen strategic communications and coordination on major issues, pushing China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership to a new high. The two sides also signed a number of important cooperation documents, such as the cooperation framework agreement on China-Russia eastern gas pipeline.

The meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama was long and covered a wide range of topics, with a positive keynote. The two heads of state once again confirmed to work together to build the New Model of Major Country Relationship, and agreed to strengthen dialogue, deepen cooperation and control differences. Wang Yi said that attending the G20 Leaders' Summit in St Petersburg is another major diplomatic action of our country.
