Xi Jinping Meets with President Emomali Rakhmon of Tajikistan

On Sept. 12, 2013, President Xi Jinping met in Bishkek with President Emomali Rakhmon of Tajikistan.

Xi Jinping expressed that President Rakhmon visited China in May this year. We have announced to establish China-Tajikistan strategic partnership and pushed forward bilateral relations to a new stage of development. We should adhere to being good neighbours, work together to safeguard security and stability in the border areas and push forward cooperation between adjacent regions. We should adhere to being good friends, enhance mutual trust and support each other on issues concerning each other's core interests. We should adhere to being good partners, carry out mutually beneficial cooperation in extensive fields and strive for the well-being of both peoples.

Xi Jinping hopes that both sides will accelerate the construction of Line D of the China-Central Asia natural gas pipeline, expand cooperation in the fields of mineral exploration, agriculture and transportation infrastructure, push for new breakthroughs in relevant projects. Hope the defense as well as law enforcement and security departments of the two countries will promote cooperation on counter-terrorism, narcotics control and border defence. Both sides should as well strengthen cooperation within the framework of the SCO to achieve long-term stability as well as common development and prosperity of the region.

Rakhmon expressed that the Tajik side places high hope on developing relations with China. The Line D of the China-Central Asia natural gas pipeline going through Tajikistan is of great significance to promoting the economy of Tajikistan. The Tajik side is willing to cooperate with China in sincerity. Hope both sides will sign as early as possible the long-term outline for economic and trade cooperation between the two countries and increase bilateral trade. Both sides should also join the efforts to combat the "three evil forces" to maintain common tranquility and development. The SCO is a platform embodying the Tajikistan-China strategic partnership and the Tajik side is willing to strengthen cooperation with China.

Both sides exchanged views on Afghanistan and other issues.

The two heads of state attended the signing ceremony of the cooperation agreement on the construction and operation of the natural gas pipeline between the two governments.

Wang Huning, Li Zhanshu, Yang Jiechi and others were present at the above activities.
