On Sept. 12, 2013, President Xi Jinping met in Bishkek with President Hassan Rouhani of Iran.

Xi Jinping stressed that China-Iran practical cooperation benefits both peoples and is also helpful for regional and world peace and stability. China is willing to maintain communication and exchanges with Iran, to deepen understanding, to enhance mutual trust and to strengthen cooperation, so as to push forward bilateral relations steadily.

Xi Jinping spoke positively of the new Iranian government's positive attitude to resolving the Iranian nuclear issue. He pointed out that the issue is a major one concerning the vital interest of Iran as well as regional security and stability. Hope in the next stage the parties concerned will focus on pushing forward practical dialogue, to seek a win-win solution of mutual benefit and to consolidate the momentum of peaceful resolution. Xi Jinping expressed that China advocates respect for Iran's legitimate rights and adheres to resolving the issue through dialogue and negotiations. China is willing to continue to make constructive efforts for promoting peace talks.

Rouhani noted that Iran-China relationship is very important. Iran hopes to strengthen cooperation with China in the fields of politics, economy, trade, investment and culture, to maintain communication in regional affairs in order to push for the further development of bilateral relations.

Rouhani reiterated Iran's position on the peaceful use of nuclear energy, saying Iran will develop the nuclear plan under the framework of the international law and the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). Iran is willing to accept the monitoring and supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency to eliminate worries of the international community through cooperation. Hope China will continue to play a constructive role.

Both sides also exchanged views on the Syria issue.
