Xi Jinping Stresses Fostering Bo'ao Characteristics Focusing on Equal Exchanges, Mutual Learning and Win-win Cooperation in Meeting with Members of BFA Board of Directors

2013/04/07

On April 7, 2013, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with members of the 4th Board of Directors of the Bo'ao Forum for Asia (BFA) in Bo'ao, Hainan Province.

Xi first shook hands with every director and exchanged greetings with them. During the meeting, Xi noted that BFA has become one of the important economic forums with growing global influence. On behalf of the Chinese government, Xi congratulated on the achievements of BFA and wished the current annual conference a success.

Xi pointed out that the world economy at present is still undergoing profound adjustment. While the Asian economies maintain sound development compared with other economies, they are inevitably affected by the adverse impact of the outside economic environment. This annual conference, under the theme of "Asia Seeking Development for All: Restructuring, Responsibility and Cooperation", clearly defines the development trend for Asia and pinpoints the development rules of Asia. It is, therefore, very conducive to brainstorming and reaching consensus. Xi hoped that all directors would actively contribute their insights and suggestions during the discussions. The forum, by sticking to its purpose, focusing on major and urgent issues facing Asia and emerging economies, promoting economic integration in Asia, serving the growth of emerging economies and fostering Bo'ao Characteristics focusing on equal exchanges, mutual learning, cooperation and win-win, would contribute more to the promotion of regional unity and cooperation for common development, Xi added. The Chinese side will continue to provide support and assistance for the BFA.

Xi stressed that China's internal and external policies follow and strive to achieve its ambitious development goals by 2020 and by the mid-21st century. China will deal with its domestic affairs with utmost devotion and at the same time will properly deal with its relations with the outside world. China adheres to the path of peace, development, mutual benefit and win-win results. China's economic development is positive news to the world. The more China grows, the more benefits it will bring to the peace and development of both Asia and the world.

Yasuo Fukuda, Chairman of the BFA Board of Directors spoke on behalf of all directors. He expressed their appreciation to Xi Jinping for his attendance to the BFA Annual Conference and for the support the Chinese government has given to the BFA. He noted that the BFA is gaining more international importance and the number of participants is rising year by year. The BFA will continue to work hard for the economic development of Asia and the rest of the world.

On the same day, Xi also met with members of the BFA Council of Advisors, representatives of foreign ministers and entrepreneurs, Chief Executive of Hong Kong SAR Mr. Leung Chun-ying, Chief Executive of Macao SAR Chui Sai On, representatives of Hong Kong and Macao entrepreneurs, representatives of Young Leaders Roundtable, representatives of BFA Overseas Chinese Business Roundtable, keynote speakers and representatives of Japanese entrepreneurs.
