Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi Summoned Japanese Ambassador to China and Lodged Strong Protest

2012-09-10 10:09

On 10 September, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi summoned the Japanese Ambassador to China Uichiro Niwa to an urgent meeting and lodged stern representations on and strong protest against the Japanese government's illegal "purchase" of the Diaoyu Island.

Yang Jiechi pointed out that the Diaoyu Island and its affiliated islands have been China's inherent territory since ancient times. This is supported by clear historical facts and jurisprudential evidence. The Chinese side seriously reiterated that Japan's so-called "purchase" of the Diaoyu Island and its affiliated islands and other unilateral actions are completely illegal and invalid. It can in no way change the historical fact of Japan's stealing from China's territory. Nor can it in any way alter China's territorial sovereignty over the Diaoyu Island and its affiliated islands.

Yang Jiechi stressed that the government and people of China will never tolerate any violation of or damage to the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and will act resolutely to uphold China's sovereignty over the Diaoyu Island and its affiliated islands. The Chinese side strongly urges the Japanese side to immediately revoke its wrong decision of "purchasing" the Diaoyu Island and stop all actions detrimental to China's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Otherwise, the Japanese side and the Japanese side alone will have to bear all consequences arising therefrom.

On the same day, Chinese Ambassador to Japan Cheng Yonghua also made stern representations with and sent a note of protest to a principal official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.
