In a press statement on 7 February, the US State Department said that it has facilitated the transportation of nearly 17.8 tons of donated medical supplies to the Chinese people this week, including masks, gowns, gauze, and respirators. According to the statement, the US government is announcing it is prepared to spend up to $100 million in existing funds to assist China and other impacted countries, both directly and through multilateral organizations, to contain and combat the novel coronavirus.

Earlier in the day, President Donald Trump posted on social media that "Great discipline is taking place in China…will be a very successful operation. We are working closely with China to help!"
