2020/02/10

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus tweeted on 9 February to salute Chinese healthworkers fighting the novel coronavirus pneumonia outbreak.

"I am in awe of the thousands of healthworkers in China, esp. in Hubei, who are caring for patients and gathering data on 2019nCov for scientific analysis, while under immense pressure." wrote Tedros, "The world is grateful for your efforts to discover how best to treat and prevent spread of the virus."

Tedros stressed that experts in medicine and science are working across borders to lead a data-driven response to 2019nCoV. "We are rapidly collecting, analysing and sharing information to keep the world safe. We must harness the power of science to bring the 2019nCoV outbreak under control."

WHO announced on 6 February that it is convening a global research and innovation forum in response to the new coronavirus from 11 to 12 February in Geneva. The forum will bring the scientific community together to identify research priorities and accelerate therapeutics and effective vaccines.
