World Leaders Commend and Support China's Epidemic Response

President Nicolás Maduro of Venezuela commended China’s creative response to the outbreak and the tremendous efforts it has taken to protect its people, which he hailed as an example of China’s institutional strengths. He shared his conviction that China will triumph over the epidemic.

President Mokgweetsi Masisi of Botswana said that the comprehensive and effective measures China has put in place protect not only the Chinese people but also the foreign nationals in China and beyond and highlight a spirit of friendship, compassion and collaborative coexistence.

President John Magufuli of Tanzania commended the strong and prompt actions taken by the Chinese government and the courage and determination demonstrated by the Chinese people in the fight against the outbreak.

Prime Minister Mark Rutte of the Netherlands noted the great courage and strength of the Chinese government and people. He expressed every confidence that the measures China has taken in close consultation with the WHO will make a difference and that the spread of the virus will soon be under control.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern of New Zealand expressed appreciation for China’s decisive response to the outbreak and New Zealand’s readiness to assist with China’s efforts to control and defeat the virus.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada said that at this difficult and uncertain time, the international community has to continue to work together and Canada is there to help.

Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit of the League of Arab States conveyed the organization’s appreciation and support for China’s huge efforts to combat the epidemic. He expressed confidence in China’s ability to overcome the challenge.

Guyana, chair country of the Group of 77 (G77), expressed the group’s full support for the Chinese government’s fight against the outbreak and stressed the need for the international community to work in a spirit of responsibility, transparency, solidarity and cooperation to jointly confront the epidemic and avoid discrimination, stigmatization and misinformation.

Secretary-General of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Vladimir Norov commended the resolute and effective measures taken by the Chinese government and people to fight the epidemic and expressed firm and unconditional support from leaders of SCO member states, observer states, and dialogue partner countries.

President Denis Sassou-Nguesso of the Republic of the Congo, President Hage Geingob of Namibia, President Ali Bongo Ondimba of Gabon, King Letsie III of Lesotho, President Borut Pahor of Slovenia, President Nicos Anastasiades of Cyprus, President Carlos Alvarado Quesada of Costa Rica, Prime Minister James Marape of Papua New Guinea, Prime Minister Gaston Browne of Antigua and Barbuda, Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare of the Solomon Islands, Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Chair of the UN Commission for Social Development (CSocD), President of the Commission of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Executive Secretary of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), and President of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) have also expressed their support and sympathies to China.
