2020/03/06

At a press briefing given by the State Council inter-agency task force on COVID-19 outbreak on 6 March, Mi Feng, NHC spokesperson and Deputy Director-General for Communications, said that 17 confirmed cases, 59 suspected cases and 1 fatal case were newly reported outside Hubei Province, and the number of severe cases was down by 15. Sixteen of the 17 new confirmed cases came from outside China, pointing to a growing risk of imported cases. “Now is not the time to let down our guard or slack off. We must continue to deepen international cooperation on epidemic control and share information and experience with WHO and relevant countries in a timely fashion to fight this virus together,” Mi said.

According to Zheng Zhongwei, Director of the NHC Development Center for Medical Science and Technology, research institutions in China are now working on vaccine development based on five technical roadmaps, and animal testing of some vaccines has already started. He estimated that some of the vaccines could begin clinical trials in April.
