China Donates $20M in Support of WHO's Global Fight Against COVID-19

2020/03/08

The Chinese government has decided to donate 20 million US dollars to WHO to support the Organization in carrying out international cooperation against the COVID-19 outbreak.

Since the start of the outbreak, WHO, under the leadership of Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has been playing an important role in urging preparedness and a science-based and rational approach, and in helping relevant countries enhance public health capacity. These efforts are widely recognized by the international community. China also highly appreciates WHO's understanding and support to its epidemic control work.

At present, the disease has broken out in multiple countries and is spreading on a wider scale, driving home the urgency of joint prevention and control. As a concrete response to WHO's appeal, China's donation is meant to support WHO in better leveraging its professional expertise, coordinating global response against the epidemic, and helping small and medium-sized countries with weak public health systems in particular to bolster their epidemic preparedness.

As virus knows no boundaries, to help others is to help oneself. China will continue to stand with other countries in solidarity and mutual support, make its own contribution to regional and international public health security, and work for a community with a shared future for mankind.
