Premier Li Keqiang Chairs Meeting of Central Leading Group on Responding to the Novel Coronavirus Disease Outbreak

2020/03/12

On 12 March, Li Keqiang, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Premier of the State Council, and head of the Central Leading Group on Responding to the Novel Coronavirus Disease Outbreak, chaired a meeting of the leading group.

The meeting required that relevant departments and sub-national governments work in greater coordination and synergy. While closely following and assessing the rapid spread of the epidemic overseas, they should take more targeted measures, in light of WHO's latest assessment and drawing on international practices, to fend off the import and export of cases.

The meeting called for stepping up coordinated responses internationally through data sharing, containment at the port of origin, inspection and quarantine, and emergency response. China will do all it can to help affected countries and international organizations in tackling the epidemic.

Capable domestic enterprises will be urged to produce more outbreak response supplies, so that on top of meeting domestic demand, they will be able to provide for some of the needs of other countries through commercial channels and based on market principles. Relevant departments should offer support as needed to facilitate such activities as they constitute an important part of international cooperation.
