2020/03/20

At the daily press briefing on 20 March, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Geng Shuang said that the Chinese government has announced assistance to 82 countries, WHO and the African Union, including testing reagents, masks and protective suits, many of which have already been delivered to the recipients.

Geng said that China is helping other affected countries mainly through four channels.

First, government-to-government assistance. The Chinese government has announced assistance to 82 countries, WHO and the African Union, including testing reagents, masks and protective suits, many of which have already been delivered to the recipients.

Second, cooperation on health technology. China has shared its diagnostics and therapeutics with other countries, held medical experts' video conferences with a wide range of countries and international organizations, and sent medical expert teams to Iran, Iraq and Italy.

Third, assistance at sub-national levels. Local governments in China have donated supplies to cities in the ROK, Japan and Italy, among others.

Fourth, non-governmental assistance. Many Chinese companies and non-governmental institutions have started to provide donations to relevant countries.

Geng provided further information on China's assistance to the ROK, Pakistan and Italy.

The Chinese government has provided the ROK with masks, protective suits and other medical supplies, and over 20 local governments in China have also donated masks, protective suits, safety goggles, testing reagents and thermometers to their sister cities/provinces including Seoul, Daegu and North Gyeongsang.

The Chinese government took immediate actions to help Pakistan by providing testing reagents, masks and protective suits, and is actively supporting Pakistan in building an "isolation hospital". Some provinces and cities have also donated masks to Islamabad and Karachi.

Chinese central and local governments have provided medical supplies to Italy, and the third medical expert team will soon be dispatched. In addition, China's Silk Road Fund has announced a donation of 20,000 N95 masks and 20,000 testing reagents to the Civil Protection Agency and the Lombardy government of Italy, with the first batch of supplies already arrived in the country.
