Third Straight Day of Zero New Local Infections on China's Mainland

2020/03/22

At a press briefing held by the State Council inter-agency task force on 21 March, NHC spokesperson Mi Feng said that 41 new confirmed cases were reported nationwide on 20 March, all of them imported.

Mi added that yesterday was the third consecutive day that no new locally transmitted cases were reported in Wuhan and on China's mainland. It also marked the 16th consecutive day of zero new local infections beyond Wuhan in Hubei, and the ninth day in a row for the rest of the Mainland.

Since WHO characterized COVID-19 as a pandemic on 11 March, the total number of imported cases in China had risen from 85 to 269, up by 216%, outpacing the 98% increase in confirmed cases globally. China must strictly prevent imported cases and implement sound epidemic control at home to avert a rebound in cases.
