Premier Li Keqiang Chairs Meeting of Central Leading Group on Responding to Novel Coronavirus Disease Outbreak

2020/03/23

On 23 March, Li Keqiang, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Premier of the State Council, and head of the Central Leading Group on Responding to the Novel Coronavirus Disease Outbreak, chaired a meeting of the leading group.

The meeting noted that even as the spread of the virus nationwide, particularly in the epicenter of Wuhan, has been effectively stemmed, the risks for sporadic infections and localized outbreaks have not gone away. With the pandemic rampaging across the world, the situation remains complex and challenging. There is every need to maintain cool-headedness and not let off guard.

The meeting called for shifting to a containment approach centering on preventing both case import and domestic resurgence in order to preserve the hard-won gains in the fight against the epidemic.

The meeting called for strengthening international exchanges and cooperation for targeted and effective curbing of cross-border spread of the virus. China will do what it can to provide other countries with help and facilitate foreign purchases of high-quality containment supplies from China through commercial channels.

China's diplomatic missions overseas and relevant agencies must provide sound consular protection and epidemic-related support to overseas Chinese nationals to address their concerns and difficulties.
