2020/03/23

At a regular press conference on 23 March, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Geng Shuang said that for countries that have helped China with its epidemic response, China will reciprocate their kindness without hesitation if there is a need. China will also do its best to assist friendly countries that are heavily hit and suffer a shortage of response supplies.

Geng said that the pandemic knows no borders but it brings out the best in humanity. The international community offered China valuable political support and medical supplies in the depths of the Chinese people's fight against the outbreak. Now as its domestic situation continues to improve, China has been doing what it can to provide assistance to other countries in need while ensuring sound epidemic containment at home.

He noted that in addition to the central government, sub-national governments and the business community in China have also donated supplies to heavily hit countries. According to Geng, sub-national governments of China have donated medical supplies to their counterparts in 19 countries, namely, Algeria, Angola, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Iran, Iraq, Italy, Japan, Laos, Lebanon, Malaysia, Pakistan, Peru, the ROK, Switzerland, Tunisia, Turkey, and the United States. Chinese companies have donated supplies to 20 countries, namely, Cambodia, Canada, the Dominican Republic, Ethiopia, France, Germany, Iran, Italy, Japan, the ROK, Laos, Malta, Mongolia, Myanmar, the Netherlands, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Tanzania, the United Kingdom and the United States. Many Chinese companies operating overseas have also donated supplies to their local communities out of a strong sense of social responsibility and recognizing that mankind is in a community with a shared future.

Geng said that by doing so, China has extended firm support to the global fight against the pandemic and contributed to global public health security. China has acted as a responsible major country, and put into practice its vision of a community with a shared future for mankind.
