Premier Li Keqiang Chairs State Council Executive Meeting

2020/03/25

On 24 March, Premier of the State Council Li Keqiang chaired a State Council executive meeting. The meeting adopted measures to facilitate the orderly resumption of work in manufacturing and logistics alongside proper epidemic containment. It decided on further steps to boost China's international air freight capacity to stabilize supply chains.

The meeting noted that the pandemic rampaging across the world has seriously impacted the global economy and posed severe challenges to the Chinese economy.

It underlined the imperative to implement the decisions made by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council to further develop the policy mix for expanding effective demand, supporting businesses and sustaining employment. It stressed the need to take better-calibrated steps to maintain stability in the six key areas (namely, employment, finance, foreign trade, foreign investment, domestic investment and market expectations).

The meeting urged continuing with science-based and targeted epidemic control. All cases, once detected, must be handled immediately, and information released in an open and transparent manner.

On the basis of effective containment, the reopening of businesses in the manufacturing and logistics sectors will be advanced in an expeditious yet orderly way.

The meeting recognized the notable shortfall in China's international air freight capacity. With air passenger services dwindling worldwide due to the outbreak, the volumes of cargo carried by passenger planes have plummeted, which has significantly affected the international supply chains of domestic industries.

The meeting urged effective measures to increase the country's international air freight capacity and ensure unimpeded shipments. This will both help bolster the Chinese economy and sharpen China's competitive edge in international logistics services.
