Beijing CDC: 14-Day Quarantine in Designated Places for Inbound Passengers Highly Necessary

2020/03/26

At a press briefing on Beijing's outbreak response yesterday, a deputy director of the Beijing Center for Disease Prevention and Control gave an update on the newly imported cases in Beijing on 24 March. She shared a case where an inbound passenger with normal body temperature upon landing developed fever and other symptoms the next day and was later confirmed with infection. As the symptoms of COVID-19 may not emerge until days after infection and they might change constantly, it is highly necessary to place inbound passengers under a 14-day quarantine for medical observation, especially at designated facilities.

Given the still challenging and complex outbreak situation, disease control authorities suggest that people avoid discretionary travel domestically or internationally, wear masks, stay away from crowds and keep their hands clean to mitigate the risk of spreading the disease.
