Premier Li Keqiang Chairs Meeting of Central Leading Group on Responding to the Novel Coronavirus Disease Outbreak

2020/03/31

On 30 March, Li Keqiang, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Premier of the State Council, and head of the Central Leading Group on Responding to the Novel Coronavirus Disease Outbreak, chaired a meeting of the leading group.

The meeting noted the steadily improving epidemic situation in China. Yet, with the pandemic ravaging the world, no country can stay safe all by itself.

The meeting called for a realistic and science-based assessment of the epidemic situation and cool-headedness over the risks and pressures. It urged fully appreciating the fact that daunting challenges remain in China's battle against the epidemic.

The meeting reiterated the imperative for open and transparent information disclosure, and warned against any cover-ups or under-reporting just to maintain the zero new case count, as truthful information will alert the public to the need for proper precautions, and facilitate vigorous and orderly resumption of production.

Preventive measures must remain in place to curb cross-border spread of the virus. Greater testing capacity and supporting equipment and facilities must be made available for conducting nucleic acid tests on all inbound travelers, with a view to curtailing case import at points of entry.

The meeting urged placing priority on asymptomatic cases, from detection, contact tracing, to isolation and treatment, in order to lock in previous gains and plug potential loopholes in the containment.

Targeted monitoring and screening for asymptomatic cases must be intensified, and the testing coverage expanded to the close contacts of known asymptomatic cases as well as confirmed cases, and to key regions under special requirements and key groups of people.
