Premier Li Keqiang Chairs Meeting of Central Leading Group on Responding to the Novel Coronavirus Disease Outbreak

2020/04/03

On 2 April, Li Keqiang, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Premier of the State Council, and head of the Central Leading Group on Responding to the Novel Coronavirus Disease Outbreak, chaired a meeting of the leading group.

The meeting underlined the imperative to earnestly implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions and carry out the work plans of the leading group. It called for relentlessly pursuing all response measures as needed in light of the new shifts in the outbreak situation at home and abroad.

The meeting stressed the need to detect and defuse the potential risks in containment, tackle any areas of weakness in preventing case import across land borders, and optimize measures against cluster infection. It required fact-based, open and transparent information disclosure and warned against cover-ups, under- or delayed reporting.

The meeting urged enhanced management of asymptomatic cases through measures from screening, reporting, quarantine, to medical intervention, the management of close contacts, and daily information release. Scientific, well-tailored epidemiological investigations of such cases will be conducted without delay in Wuhan City, Hubei Province and some other provinces. The goal is to gain more knowledge about the infection rate of Covid-19, ascertain the circumstances of each asymptomatic case, and assess transmissibility and infection intensity. Findings of the investigations will be made public and used for providing scientific underpinning for targeted containment.
