NHC Update on COVID-19 Cases in China

1. Between 00:00 and 24:00, 17 May, the following were newly reported by the 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps:

a) 7 confirmed cases (4 imported, all in Inner Mongolia; 3 local, 2 in Jilin and 1 in Shanghai);

b) no fatal cases;

c) 1 suspected case (imported in Shanghai);

d) 11 cured and discharged cases;

e) 246 close contacts released from medical observation; and

f) 2 fewer severe cases.

2. As of 24:00, 17 May, among all the imported cases, 45 confirmed cases (including 2 severe cases) were still under treatment and 4 suspected cases pending test results. In total, 1,704 imported cases had been confirmed, 1,659 cases cured and discharged, and no fatal cases reported.

3. As of 24:00, 17 May, the following had been reported by the 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps:

a) 82 confirmed cases (including 8 severe cases) still under treatment;

b) 78,238 cured and discharged cases;

c) 4,634 fatal cases;

d) 82,954 confirmed cases;

e) 4 suspected cases pending test results; and

f) 740,054 close contacts traced (including 4,970 still under medical observation).

4. Between 00:00 and 24:00, 17 May, the following asymptomatic cases were reported by the 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps:

a) 18 new cases (2 imported);

b) no cases developed into confirmed cases;

c) 85 cases released from medical observation (1 imported); and

d) 448 cases still under medical observation (31 imported).

5. As of 24:00, 17 May, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan had altogether reported 1,540 confirmed cases:

a) 1,055 in the Hong Kong SAR (including 1,024 discharged cases and 4 fatal cases);

b) 45 in the Macao SAR (including 44 discharged cases); and

c) 440 in the Taiwan region (including 395 discharged cases and 7 fatal cases).
