NHC Update on COVID-19 Cases in China: No New Confirmed Cases on 22 May

1. Between 00:00 and 24:00, 22 May, the following were newly reported by the 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps:

a) no confirmed cases;

b) no fatal cases;

c) 2 suspected cases (1 imported case in Shanghai and 1 local case in Jilin);

d) 3 cured and discharged cases;

e) 252 close contacts released from medical observation; and

f) 1 more severe case.

2. As of 24:00, 22 May, among all the imported cases, 41 confirmed cases (including 2 severe cases) were still under treatment and 5 suspected cases awaiting test results. In total, 1,711 imported cases had been confirmed, 1,670 cases cured and discharged, and no fatal cases reported.

3. As of 24:00, 22 May, the following had been reported by the 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps:

a) 79 confirmed cases (including 9 severe cases) still under treatment;

b) 78,258 cured and discharged cases;

c) 4,634 fatal cases;

d) 82,971 confirmed cases;

e) 6 suspected cases pending test results; and

f) 741,696 close contacts traced (including 5,085 still under medical observation).

4. Between 00:00 and 24:00, 22 May, the following asymptomatic cases were reported by the 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps:

a) 28 new cases (2 imported);

b) no cases developed into confirmed cases;

c) 23 cases released from medical observation (2 imported); and

d) 370 cases still under medical observation (26 imported).

5. As of 24:00, 22 May, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan had altogether reported 1,551 confirmed cases:

a) 1,065 in the Hong Kong SAR (including 1,029 discharged cases and 4 fatal cases);

b) 45 in the Macao SAR (all discharged from hospital); and

c) 441 in the Taiwan region (including 408 discharged cases and 7 fatal cases).
