Beijing Tightens Travel Control

2020/06/19

Beijing announced steps to prevent further spread of the virus at a press conference on COVID-19 response held on 18 June. Three categories of people are banned from leaving Beijing. Control on inbound travel from low-, medium- and high-risk regions is also tightened.

According to Pan Xuhong, Deputy Director and spokesperson of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau, the three categories of people are:

First, confirmed cases, suspected cases, close contacts, asymptomatic cases and fever patients in Beijing;

Second, those who have visited the Xinfadi Wholesale Market or had close contact with its staff since 30 May; and

Third, residents in medium- and high-risk communities and townships.

Other residents are advised not to leave Beijing unless absolutely necessary, and only leave with NAT-negative reports issued within the past seven days.

Civil aviation and railway departments have prohibited selling tickets to confirmed cases, suspected cases, close contacts and asymptomatic cases, as well as those who have visited the Xinfadi Wholesale Market or had close contact with its staff since 30 May. Outbound air and rail passengers will have their temperatures taken and NAT-negative reports verified before boarding.
