Beijing: Full Inspection on People under Medical Observation At Home or in Designated Facilities and Ensure Due Procedures to Prevent Cross-Infection

2020/07/03

New local cases in Beijing have been kept at a single-digit low level for four consecutive days through 1 July, with more patients cured and discharged from hospital, said Xu Hejian, Deputy Head of the Communication Department of the CPC Beijing Committee and Director of the Information Office and Spokesperson of the Beijing Municipal Government, at a press conference on Beijing's COVID-19 response on 2 July. But Beijing is still at a most critical and demanding stage of COVID-19 containment, where unremitting vigilance remains crucial. It is imperative to continue the disinfection work and goods evacuation at the Xinfadi Wholesale Market, check on all those under medical observation at home or in designated facilities, and ensure the enforcement of due procedures of medical observation.

Xu urged the following specific efforts:

  • Conduct thorough disinfection of public spaces to cut off transmission;
  • Continue with the disinfection work and goods evacuation at the Xinfadi Wholesale Market and adopt sound follow-up measures;
  • Ensure proper disinfection and cleaning in designated facilities for medical observation, restaurants and public restrooms;
  • Check on all those under medical observation at home or in designated facilities, ensure the enforcement of due procedures of medical observation, and strengthen management oversight to prevent cross-infection; and
  • Put in place a clear emergency response protocol and better enforce temperature screening requirements at designated facilities for medical observation.

Every citizen is duty bound to contribute to COVID-19 response, as individuals have the most crucial responsibilities in the four major categories of stakeholders, namely, local authorities, line departments, employers and individuals. Xu called on Beijing citizens to live up to their responsibilities and follow community instructions with a good sense of discipline. Proper personal protection remains crucial, which includes wearing masks, washing hands, airing rooms, and avoiding gatherings or group dining. Anyone who has relevant symptoms must report and seek medical attention in a timely manner. Those under medical observation at home or in designated facilities must strictly observe relevant requirements, stay indoors and keep away from gatherings. They should monitor and report their body temperatures on a daily basis, report any bodily discomfort, seek medical attention following relevant requirements, and cooperate with examination, testing and environment disinfection work.
