NHC Update on COVID-19 Cases in China (24:00, 16 July)

1. Between 00:00 and 24:00, 16 July, the following were reported by the 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps:

a) 10 confirmed cases (9 imported, including 4 in Guangdong, 1 in Shanghai, 1 in Jiangsu, 1 in Shandong,1 in Guangxi and 1 in Shaanxi; 1 local in Xinjiang);

b) no fatal cases;

c) 1 suspected cases (imported in Shanghai);

d) 18 cured and discharged cases;

e) 46 close contacts released from medical observation; and

f) no change in the number of severe cases.

2. As of 24:00, 16 July, among all the imported cases, 86 confirmed cases (including 3 severe cases) were still under treatment and 3 suspected cases awaiting test results. In total, 1,998 imported cases had been confirmed, 1,912 cases cured and discharged, and no fatal cases reported.

3. As of 24:00, 16 July, the following had been reported by the 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps:

a) 251 confirmed cases (including 3 severe cases) still under treatment;

b) 78,737 cured and discharged cases;

c) 4,634 fatal cases;

d) 83,622 confirmed cases;

e) 3 suspected cases pending test results; and

f) 767,916 close contacts traced (including 3,651 still under medical observation).

4. Between 00:00 and 24:00, 16 July, the following asymptomatic cases were reported by the 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps:

a) 5 new cases (2 imported);

b) no cases developed into confirmed cases;

c) 5 cases released from medical observation (4 imported); and

d) 104 cases still under medical observation (79 imported).

5. As of 24:00, 16 July, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan had altogether reported 2,153 confirmed cases:

a) 1,655 in the Hong Kong SAR (including 1,254 discharged cases and 10 fatal cases);

b) 46 in the Macao SAR (45 discharged from hospital); and

c) 452 in the Taiwan region (including 440 discharged cases and 7 fatal cases).
