Vice Premier Han Zheng Met with First Vice-President of the European Commission Frans Timmermans Via Video Link

On 29 July, Han Zheng, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council, met with First Vice-President of the European Commission Frans Timmermans via video link in Beijing.

Han noted the mutual support and assistance between China and the EU in response to COVID-19, which demonstrated and enriched the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two sides. He highlighted the imperative for China and the EU to step up cooperation in fighting COVID-19 and promoting an early recovery of the global economy.

Han expressed China's readiness to take active and responsible steps in climate change response, biodiversity conservation and clean energy development. China is also prepared to strengthen dialogue and cooperation with the EU to jointly uphold multilateralism and bring the China-EU relationship to greater heights.

Timmermans underscored the global significance of EU-China cooperation against COVID-19. As a comprehensive strategic partner, the EU will work with China to enhance macroeconomic coordination and green development cooperation, earnestly implement the Paris Agreement, uphold multilateralism and tackle global challenges together.
