NHC Update on COVID-19 Cases in China

1. Between 00:00 and 24:00, 24 August, the following were reported by the 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps:

a) 14 confirmed cases (all imported, including 4 in Sichuan, 3 in Guangdong, 2 in Shanghai, 2 in Shaanxi, 1 in Tianjin, 1 in Hebei, and 1 in Liaoning);

b) no fatal cases;

c) no suspected cases;

d) 36 cured and discharged cases;

e) 1,294 close contacts released from medical observation; and

f) 4 fewer severe cases than the previous day.

2. As of 24:00, 24 August, among all the imported cases, 219 confirmed cases (3 severe cases) were still under treatment and 2 suspected cases awaiting test results. In total, 2,432 imported cases had been confirmed, 2,213 cases cured and discharged, and no fatal cases reported.

3. As of 24:00, 24 August, the following had been reported by the 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps:

a) 386 confirmed cases (including 10 severe cases) still under treatment;

b) 79,961 cured and discharged cases;

c) 4,634 fatal cases;

d) 84,981 confirmed cases;

e) 2 suspected cases pending test results; and

f) 812,268 close contacts traced (including 12,370 still under medical observation).

4. Between 00:00 and 24:00, 24 August, the following asymptomatic cases were reported by the 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps:

a) 16 new cases (all imported);

b) no cases developed into confirmed cases;

c) 16 cases released from medical observation (7 imported); and

d) 374 cases still under medical observation (315 imported).

5. As of 24:00, 24 August, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan had altogether reported 5,224 confirmed cases:

a) 4,691 in the Hong Kong SAR (including 4,052 discharged cases and 77 fatal cases);

b) 46 in the Macao SAR (all discharged from hospital); and

c) 487 in the Taiwan region (including 457 discharged cases and 7 fatal cases).
