Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu Attends the Virtual Meeting of BRICS Sherpas

2020/09/14

On September 11, 2020, Vice Foreign Minister and Chinese Sherpa for BRICS Affairs Ma Zhaoxu attended and addressed the virtual meeting of BRICS Sherpas. The meeting was chaired by Sergey Ryabkov, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and Russian Sherpa, whose country holds the BRICS presidency this year. All parties exchanged views on the preparations for this year's BRICS summit.

Ma Zhaoxu noted, BRICS countries are major emerging markets and developing countries with global influence. Under the current background of the global spread of the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the increasingly intensified unilateralism, protectionism and bullying, the BRICS summit has received much international attention. The Chinese side firmly supports the work of the presidency, and is prepared to strengthen communication and coordination with other BRICS countries, make strategic plans and arrangements for BRICS cooperation, and push practical cooperation in various fields for new progress. It is expected that the summit will send out a voice of supporting multilateralism, safeguarding international fairness and justice, advancing global economic governance in the post-pandemic era, and play an active, stable and constructive role in international affairs.
