Director-General of the Department of International Economic Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Wang Xiaolong Attends and Addresses Tsinghua University International AI Cooperation and Governance Forum 2020

On December 18, 2020, Director-General of the Department of International Economic Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Wang Xiaolong attended and addressed the opening ceremony of the Tsinghua University International AI Cooperation and Governance Forum 2020.

Wang Xiaolong said, President Xi Jinping delivered a series of important speeches and put forward a number of significant proposals and initiatives at the 12th BRICS Summit, the 27th APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting and the 15th G20 Leaders' Summit, promoting all parties to reach consensus and strengthen cooperation on major issues such as coordinating pandemic prevention and control and economic and social development, shaping the international order in the post-pandemic era, and enhancing global economic governance including AI development, which are highly appreciated by the international community. In the context that AI is advancing rapidly across the globe, the development of universally accepted common rules on information network technology and AI has become an important element of global economic governance. Countries should follow the trend of open world economy and technological advancement, jointly create an open, fair, just and non-discriminatory market environment, continuously deepen international cooperation in the field of AI, and work together towards the goal of "leading the healthy development of AI globally" proposed by President Xi Jinping.

Hosted by Tsinghua University's Institute for AI International Governance (I-AIIG), with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as the international supporting organization, the Tsinghua University International AI Cooperation and Governance Forum 2020 was joined by representatives from China's government agencies, international organizations such as the UN and the AI industry, as well as Chinese and foreign experts and scholars for in-depth exchanges and discussions.
