China and Russia Hold the Third Round of Director-level Video Consultation on African Affairs

On December 23, 2020, Director-General of the Department of African Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Wu Peng held the third round of video consultation on African affairs with Director-General of the Department of Africa of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia Tkachenko Vsevolod Igorevich. Both sides exchanged views on the situation in Africa, hotspot issues, their cooperation with Africa and tripartite cooperation related to Africa.

Wu Peng congratulated Russia on the successful hosting of the first Russia-Africa Summit last year and introduced the implementation of the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). He said that as important partners of Africa, China and Russia share common objectives and extensive consensus on supporting Africa's peace and development efforts. China is willing to maintain frequent communication with Russia on African affairs and make full use of their advantages to promote economic and social development in Africa based on full respect for Africa's own will.

Tkachenko Vsevolod Igorevich spoke highly of the extraordinary achievements made by China in fighting against COVID-19, and appreciated China's active support for the COVID-19 response in African countries. He acclaimed the FOCAC's practical and efficient results and said Russia is ready to strengthen exchanges and mutual learning with China on their African cooperation mechanisms, discuss common cooperation with Africa in areas such as public health, and further enhance coordination and collaboration on international and regional issues.
