Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Beijing Organising Committee for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Invite the Second Batch of Foreign Envoys to Visit Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics Venues

On March 18 to 22, 2021, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Beijing Organising Committee for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (Beijing Organising Committee) invited the second batch of foreign envoys to visit competition zones of Zhangjiakou, Yanqing and Beijing. A total of over 180 people, including envoys from 77 countries such as Thailand, Singapore, Algeria, Chad, Cape Verde, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Malta, Australia and Bahamas and international organizations, representatives of international organizations and senior diplomats attended the event and visited all the venues in three competition zones. President of China Public Diplomacy Association (CPDA) Wu Hailong, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on European Affairs Wu Hongbo, full-time Vice President and Secretary-General of Beijing Organising Committee Han Zirong and others accompanied the visit.

   

When talking with the envoys, President Wu Hailong said making the Beijing Winter Olympics a complete success is China's solemn commitment to the whole world. The holding of the Winter Olympics in China will strongly promote the development of winter sports in China, and bolster China's cause of common prosperity and green development. He hopes that the envoys will convey China's determination and actions of fulfilling its international commitments and the guiding principles of the Olympics preparations to the world. Special Representative Wu Hongbo said that the Chinese government and people will work closely with all countries with sincerity, earnestly implement the guiding principle of "simplicity, safety and excellence" put forward by President Xi Jinping, and bring a sporting event which transcends ideologies, connects civilizations and links peoples' hearts for the people of the world. Vice President Han Zirong said that during the preparation of the Beijing Winter Olympics, China made full use of the 2008 Olympics venues, deployed renewable energy, embodied characteristics of the Chinese cultures and focused on cultural heritage, which will provide China's wisdom, approach and power for the development of the Olympic Games.

The envoys spoke highly of the timely and efficient completion of venues and facilities by China despite the COVID-19 impacts. They commended China's concepts of environmental protection, coordinated development of sports and people's livelihood, and scientific and technological innovation, and said the preparations of the Beijing Winter Olympics have set a new standard for the Games. The envoys said this trip has deepened their understanding about China's preparations for a green, open and science-based Olympics. They are deeply impressed by China's strength, confidence and determination of hosting the Winter Olympics and wish the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics a united, successful and excellent sporting event.
