2021/06/02

On the evening of June 2, 2021, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on European Affairs Wu Hongbo, upon invitation, attended the National Day reception held by the Embassy of Italy in China.

Wu Hongbo said in his speech, since the COVID-19 outbreak, Chinese and Italian people have shared weal and woe, vividly demonstrating the thousand-year-long friendship. The bilateral practical cooperation displays strong resilience and vitality in all fields. The China-Italy Year of Culture and Tourism in 2022 will meet with the Beijing Winter Olympic Games, which will inject greater impetus for strengthening bilateral ties. Italy is G20 presidency this year. China will fully support its efforts to host the G20, promote all parties to embrace the vision of a community with a shared future for mankind, and ultimately defeat the pandemic in a spirit of solidarity and through joint efforts.

Wu Hongbo said, this year marks the centenary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC). Under the leadership of the CPC, China always seeks win-win results, rather than a zero-sum outcome, and actively promotes world peace, development and prosperity. China has started the implementation of the 14th Five-year Plan across the board, and it will advance opening-up at an even higher level, and bring more cooperation opportunities to all countries including Italy. He believes that China and Italy will continue to adhere to the spirit of mutual respect, mutual trust, mutual benefit, win-win outcomes, and mutual learning, lifting the comprehensive strategic partnership to a higher level.

Wu Hongbo also exchanged views on China-Italy relations and other issues with Ambassador of Italy to China Luca Ferrari.
