2013/03/24

On March 23 local time, General Secretary of Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chinese President Xi Jinping attended in Moscow the inception for the construction of the Memorial for the 6th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets attended the ceremony.

Xi made an important speech at the ceremony, stating that the inception is of particular significance at this moment. On behalf of the CPC, over 80 million CPC members and 1.3 billion Chinese people, Xi expressed his sincere appreciation to Russian President Vladimir Putin and other Russian leaders and all the Russian friends who have given great importance to and shown support for the building of the Memorial.

Eighty-five years ago, more than 140 CPC delegates from all parts of China, risking their lives and overcoming lots of obstacles and difficulties, came all the way to Moscow to hold the 6th National Congress of the CPC, Xi recalled. It was a time when the Chinese people were in great suffering and the revolution was at the most difficult juncture. For a better future of China and the Chinese nation, those CPC delegates managed to hold the 6th CPC National Congress thanks to the assistance of the Russian people and some international organizations. That Congress proved to have played a very critical role in the building and development of CPC, China's revolution and the liberation of the Chinese people. It is the only CPC National Congress in the Party's history held on a foreign soil and is of great historical significance.

Xi stressed that the convention site of the 6th CPC National Congress is an important old site in the course of the nation's revolution and is also an important symbol of the deep friendship between peoples of China and Russia. The Communist Party of China, the Chinese government and the Chinese people remember dearly the special Congress and the mutual support between the two peoples. The construction of the Memorial for the 6th CPC National Congress is a clear indication that we will always remember the past, inherit and carry forward the traditional friendship between China and Russia and promote all-time friendly relations between the two countries.

Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets noted in her speech that the construction of the Memorial for the 6th CPC National Congress demonstrates mutual understanding and great friendship between the two peoples. Russia believes that this Memorial will be another symbol of Russia-China friendship.

Xi and Golodets together touched the flash ball, formally launching the building project of the Memorial for the 6th CPC National Congress.

The decision to move the 6th CPC National Congress to Moscow USSR was made by the Central Committee of CPC amidst the harsh white terror at home in 1928. The Congress was held from June 18 to July 11 in the outskirts of Moscow. The proposal of building a memorial for the 6th CPC National Congress on the old site was put forward three years ago by the then Vice President Xi Jinping on his visit to Russia. The then Russian Prime Minister Putin warmly welcomed the suggestion. Only three years later, that proposal came to reality thanks to the attention and support of Putin and the Russian government and the joint efforts of the two sides.

Wang Huning, Li Zhanshu and Yang Jiechi also attended the ceremony.
