Xi Jinping Meets with President Ram Baran Yadav of Nepal

On March 28, 2015, President Xi Jinping met at the Boao State Guest House of Hainan Province with President Ram Baran Yadav of Nepal.

Xi Jinping welcomed Ram Baran Yadav to attend the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2015 in China. Xi Jinping pointed out that China and Nepal are close and friendly neighbors sharing weal and woe and model of peaceful co-existence and mutually beneficial cooperation between big and small countries. We cherish bilateral traditional friendship, and will be good friends featuring mutual respect and support in politics, good partners featuring common development and prosperity in economics as well as good neighbors featuring mutual reliance and dependence in security with Nepal.

Xi Jinping stressed that this year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relationship, and we are willing to work with Nepal to ensure success of a series of celebrations so as to add new vigor and energy to bilateral friendship under the new circumstances. Both sides should enhance cooperation in such development fields as connectivity, infrastructure, hydroelectric development, agricultural modernization, science and technology. China stands ready to launch the negotiation with Nepal on Free Trade Agreement as soon as possible and welcomes Nepal to actively participate in the construction of the Belt and Road. Both sides should deepen cooperation in law enforcement and security. China appreciates Nepal’s long-term and firm support to it on Taiwan and Tibet-related and other issues concerning its core interests, and will always back Nepal’s efforts in safeguarding independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and hopes that Nepal will allow no forces to engage in anti-China separatist activities in its territory. Both sides should enhance exchanges between youths and overseas students and expand people-to-people and cultural cooperation. China encourages more Chinese citizens to travel in Nepal and supports Tibet, Sichuan and other provinces neighboring to Nepal to strengthen bilateral exchanges and cooperation with Nepal. Both sides should enhance coordination and cooperation in multilateral fields to safeguard common interests.

Ram Baran Yadav expressed that no matter how the international situation changes, the Nepal-China relationship has always enjoyed friendly and harmonious development on the basis of the Five Principles of Peaceful Co-existence since the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relationship 60 years ago, of which Nepal is proud. Both sides understand and support each other on respective concerned issues. Nepal will never allow any anti-China activities in its territory. China has always backed Nepal’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and offered valuable humanitarian and material support for Nepal’s development, to which Nepal is grateful. Nepal firmly supports the Belt and Road initiatives and the construction of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. Nepal hopes to promote cooperation between the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation and China in order to push connectivity and economic development in the region. Nepal appreciates China’s important and positive role in international affairs and will enhance cooperation with China.
