Xi Jinping Meets with Speaker of the National Assembly Maja Gojković of Serbia

On June 18, 2016 local time, President Xi Jinping met in Belgrade with Speaker of the National Assembly Maja Gojković of Serbia.

Xi Jinping stressed that Chinese and Serbian people hold sincere sentiments towards each other. In recent years, China-Serbia traditional friendly cooperation has been revealing increasing and new vitality. President Tomislav Nikolić and I decided to establish China-Serbia comprehensive strategic partnership to build a broader platform for the development of bilateral relations. China, regarding Serbia as a reliable and sincere friend and strategic partner, is willing to work with Serbia to increase high-level contacts, strengthen communications and coordination on major global and regional issues, deepen cooperation in key areas under such frameworks as the "Belt and Road" initiative, cooperation between China and the Central and Eastern European countries, and international production capacity cooperation, and expand direct exchanges between the two peoples.

Xi Jinping pointed out that exchanges between legislative bodies of the two countries constitute an important component of the China-Serbia comprehensive strategic partnership. In recent years, positive results have been yielded from the close exchanges and cooperation carried out by the legislative bodies of the two countries. Both legislative bodies should improve the existing communication mechanisms, further deepen friendly exchanges at all levels, and strengthen exchanges of experience in legislation, supervision as well as governance and administration of state affairs, promote mutually beneficial cooperation in economy, trade, culture, people-to-people exchanges and other sectors, and enhance communication and coordination in international parliamentary organizations, so as to contribute to cementing the social and public opinion foundation of bilateral relations and pushing forward the comprehensive, healthy and stable development of China-Serbia comprehensive strategic partnership.

Maja Gojković noted that President Xi Jinping's state visit to Serbia this time, as a big event for the Serbian people, will surely lift Serbia-China traditional friendship and cooperation to a new high. The Serbian National Assembly is committed to Serbia-China friendship and is ready to enhance exchanges and cooperation with the National People's Congress of China, so as to make positive contributions to Serbia-China relations in various fields.

Wang Huning, Li Zhanshu, Yang Jiechi, and others were present at the meeting.
