President Xi Jinping Meets with Governor Edmund Brown of California

On June 8, 2013, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Governor Edmund Brown of California in the state.

Xi Jinping thanked Governor Brown and other state officials of California for their hospitality and the considerate arrangements. Xi Jinping said, I came to the U.S. For the Chin-U.S. Presidential meeting this time at the invitation of President Obama. It is the first face-to-face meeting between the two heads of state since the two countries completed the latest leadership transitions. I had in-depth and candid exchanges of views with President Obama on bilateral relations as well as major international and regional issues, and we reached important consensus. Both sides agreed to build together a new type of relationship between great powers based on mutual respect, mutual benefits with win-win results and laid out a comprehensive blueprint for the future development of China-US relations. Looking into the future, I am fully confident that there are broad prospects for cooperation between China and the United States.

Xi Jinping spoke positively of the achievements California has made in exchanges and cooperation with its Chinese counterpart, as well as Brown's efforts made to this end. He stressed that local-level cooperation constitutes the most extensive social basis for China-US relations. At present, both China and the United States are making structural adjustments, maintaining economic growth and increasing employment, which provides many new opportunities for cooperation. China is willing to expand economic and trade cooperation and two-way investment with California, and strengthen cooperation in fields of green and low-carbon technology, clean energy, information, infrastructure construction as well as cultural and creative industries. China welcomes more products of California into China. It is believed that the communication and cooperation between China and California will make greater progress.

On behalf of the Californian people, Brown welcomed the visit of President Xi Jinping. Brown said that it is an honor of California to host the meetings between the two heads of state of China and the U.S. In the 21st century, countries should cooperate for win-win results. The world requires China and the United States to build up a new type of relationship between great powers, which is in the fundamental interests of the two countries and the two peoples. Facing the Pacific Ocean and China, California has a long history of exchanges with China, and there have been many Chinese living in the state. California's dream is to achieve sustainable development through innovation, so as to create a better living and developing environment for the people, which goes with the Chinese dream. California is willing to strengthen cooperation and exchanges with China and make greater contributions to the development of U.S.-China relations.

Peng Liyuan, Wang Huning, Li Zhanshu and Yang Jiechi were present at the meeting.
