On February 10, 2023, Foreign Minister Qin Gang had a phone call with Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs Hadja Lahbib.

Qin Gang said that China and Belgium are countries where diverse cultures converge and both have the experience and wisdom to tolerate differences and manage disputes. China attaches great importance to its relations with Belgium and is ready to make joint efforts with Belgium to enhance mutual understanding and trust, truly respect and accommodate each other's core interests and concerns, expand cooperation in various fields and increase personnel exchanges, so as to work for greater development of China-Belgium relations. China supports and encourages the entry of more quality Belgium products into the Chinese market and we hope that Belgium will continue to provide an equitable, transparent and non-discriminatory business environment for Chinese enterprises.

Qin Gang noted that China and Europe have no way for geopolitical conflicts and what we enjoy is broad common interest. The two sides should remain committed to a comprehensive strategic partnership, uphold mutual respect, dialogue and cooperation, oppose politicizing and weaponizing economic and trade issues, and work together to maintain safe and unimpeded global industrial and supply chains, in a bid to promote long-term and stable development of China-Europe relations.

Lahbib said that Belgium-China relations now enjoy a positive momentum of development. Belgium is firmly committed to the one-China policy and stands ready to strengthen cooperation with China in the fields of economy, trade, aviation and more, to increase personnel exchanges between the two countries and promote greater development of bilateral relations. Belgium is committed to an open economy and does not support practices of decoupling and disruption of industrial and supply chains.

The two sides also exchanged views on topics of mutual interest and concern.
